While COSC is now the unified authority for watch testing in Switzerland, it wasn't the first. Watch movement testing dates back to the 1800s. By the late 1870s, various testing companies existed throughout Switzerland, with cities like Bern, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Soleure, and Vaud housing well-known laboratories. However, these laboratories had varying standards for evaluating movement accuracy. This lack of uniformity paved the way for the creation of a unified, independent organization like COSC.
